Dhamaka is a Hindi-language thriller film from 2021 in India, directed and written by Ram Madhvani. It’s an official remake of the 2013 movie The Terror Live and follows Kartik Aaryan as a journalist who receives a threat after interviewing a terrorist who caused an explosion at the Bandra Worli Sea Link in Mumbai. The film also stars Mrunal Thakur and Amruta Subhash in significant roles.
Sunir Kheterpal of Azure Entertainment first pitched the adaptation along with the producers of the original film. However, after Kheterpal dropped the project, Screwvala acquired the rights, and Madhvani helmed the project. Production began in Mumbai in December 2020 and was completed within ten days. The post-production works began simultaneously and were finished within four months, with visual effects and graphics being resumed after the COVID-19 lockdown due to the second wave of the pandemic in September 2021. The cinematography was handled by Manu Anand and edited by Monisha Baldawa and Amit Karia, while the music and background score were composed by Vishal Khurana.
Initially, the producers planned for a theatrical release, but they later decided to release it directly to the streaming service Netflix on 19 November 2021, instead of theatrical release in January 2021. The film also screened at the 52nd International Film Festival of India after its release. The movie received mixed reviews from critics, who praised Aaryan’s performance and Madhvani’s direction but criticized the cliched plot and dialogues.
