The 2022 Marathi language musical romantic drama film, Chandramukhi (which means “Moon-faced beauty” in translation), was written by Chinmay Mandlekar and directed by Prasad Oak. It was produced by Planet Marathi, Golden Ratio Films, Flying Dragon Entertainment, and Creative Vibe, and is based on a novel of the same name by Vishwas Patil. The story revolves around an intense musical love affair between Chandra, a leading Tamasha singer and dancer, and Daulat, a rising politician, and the consequences that follow. Amruta Khanvilkar played the lead role of Chandra, while Adinath Kothare and Mrunmayee Deshpande also starred in the film. The songs were composed by the duo Ajay-Atul.
Originally scheduled for a Diwali 2021 release, the film was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India, and was finally released in theaters on April 29, 2022. Critics gave the film positive reviews, praising the cinematography, theme, music, and the lead actors’ performances, especially Khanvilkar’s portrayal of Chandra. Chandramukhi was a commercial success, grossing ₹18 crore (US$2.3 million) and becoming the fifth highest-grossing Marathi film of 2022.
