The story of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” follows four friends, Julie, Helen, Barry, and Ray, who accidentally hit a pedestrian with their car on a dark, secluded road. In a panic, they dump the body in the water and agree to never speak of it again. One year later, they begin receiving menacing messages from an unknown person claiming to know their secret, and they realize that someone is out for revenge.
Upon its release, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” received mixed reviews from critics. While some praised the film’s suspenseful atmosphere and effective scares, others criticized its reliance on cliches and predictable plot twists. Nevertheless, the film was a commercial success, grossing over $125 million worldwide.
The film received one award nomination, a Teen Choice Award for ‘s performance, but did not win. However, it spawned two sequels, “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” (1998) and “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer” (2006).
Despite its mixed critical reception, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” has become a cult classic and remains popular among horror fans. Its suspenseful storyline, memorable characters, and iconic moments, such as the hook-wielding killer and the famous “What are you waiting for?” line, have cemented its place in horror movie history.
