Directed by Tinto Brass, “Miranda” (also known as “The Mistress of the Inn”) is an Italian erotic drama film released in 1985. The film draws loose inspiration from Carlo Goldoni’s three-act comedy “La locandiera”.
Set in a small Po Valley town in the late 1940s, “Miranda” follows the life of an innkeeper named Miranda, played by Serena Grandi, who has been widowed after her husband’s loss in World War II. Despite waiting for her husband’s return, Miranda has a lover named Berto, played by Andrea Occhipinti, who works as a transporter. When Berto is away, Miranda engages in affairs with other men, including Carlo, an older and wealthy former fascist played by Franco Interlenghi, and Norman, an American engineer working in the area played by Andy J. Forest. Additionally, Miranda’s employee at the inn, Tony, played by Franco Branciaroli, also harbors feelings for her, but she constantly keeps him at arm’s length.
