Parshya, a low-caste boy, falls in love with Archi, a high-caste girl. Their love story is challenged by societal norms and customs, leading to severe consequences for both of them. The film depicts the harsh realities of caste discrimination and honor killings prevalent in rural India.
The film was critically acclaimed and received numerous awards. It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi and was selected as India’s official entry for the 2016 Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category. It also won six Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actress.
The performances of the lead actors, Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru, were highly appreciated, and the film’s music composed by Ajay-Atul became popular. Overall, “Sairat” is considered one of the best Marathi films ever made, and its success helped bring attention to the Marathi film industry.
