“At the Bar” (Turkish: “Barda”) is a crime drama film that was released in Turkey in 2007. It was written and directed by Serdar Akar and is based on a real-life event that took place in Ankara, Turkey in 1997. The movie follows the story of a gang led by that brutally attacks, murders and rapes a group of young friends. Upon its release on February 2, 2007, the film was marketed as the most violent Turkish movie ever made. It was also shown in competition at the 26th Istanbul International Film Festival.

Plot

A group of young friends from high society, ranging in age from 18 to 25, spend a night at their regular bar. However, as they finish their drinks and prepare to leave, they are suddenly held hostage at gunpoint by five unknown assailants. The captives are bound and subjected to torture, rape and murder throughout the night until morning. The gang responsible for the heinous act have no discernible motive, other than seeking retribution on these young people for their unfinished lives.
