“Black Water” is a 2007 Australian thriller film directed by David Nerlich and Andrew Traucki. The film is loosely based on the true story of a crocodile attack that occurred in Australia’s Northern Territory.
“Black Water” follows a group of tourists who go on a wildlife tour of the mangrove swamps in Northern Australia. While on the tour, the boat is suddenly attacked by a massive crocodile, causing the boat to capsize and leaving the tourists stranded in the water with the deadly predator lurking below.
“Black Water” received generally positive reviews from critics, with many praising its tense and suspenseful atmosphere. The film’s use of practical effects and minimal CGI was also praised. However, some critics found the film to be slow-paced and lacking in character development.
“Black Water” received several nominations for various awards, including Best Sound at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards and Best Editing at the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards. The film was also nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Fantasporto International Fantasy Film Awards.
Despite its critical acclaim, “Black Water” did not receive a wide release and was not a commercial success, which may have contributed to its relative obscurity. However, the film has gained a cult following among horror fans and is considered by many to be one of the better crocodile attack films in recent memory.
