“Große Freiheit” follows the story of a man named Hans, who is released from prison after serving 10 years for homosexuality. He meets a younger man named Matthias, and the two develop a romantic relationship. As they navigate their feelings for each other and the challenges of living as a gay couple in 1950s Vienna, Hans reflects on his past experiences and the societal oppression that led to his imprisonment.
