Red Eye is a high-stakes psychological thriller that takes place almost entirely aboard a red-eye flight. Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams) is a hotel manager with a fear of flying, but she boards a late-night flight to Miami after attending her grandmother’s funeral. Seated next to her is the charming but mysterious Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy), who soon reveals his sinister motives.
Jackson is an operative in a political assassination plot, and he forces Lisa to participate by threatening her father’s life. She must outsmart him, escape his grasp, and prevent a deadly attack—all while trapped at 30,000 feet in the air.
Plot:
Lisa Reisert, a resourceful hotel manager, reluctantly boards a red-eye flight to Miami. She strikes up a conversation with her seemingly charismatic seatmate, Jackson Rippner, but the friendly encounter quickly turns into a nightmare.
Jackson reveals that he is part of a terrorist organization and that Lisa is the key to their mission. His demand: she must use her position at the hotel to reassign a high-profile government official to a specific room, making him vulnerable to an assassination attempt. If she refuses, Jackson’s associates will kill her father, Joe (Brian Cox), who is being watched at home.
Lisa is trapped with no way to call for help and must think quickly. Using her intelligence and courage, she subtly attempts to alert the flight crew and fellow passengers, but Jackson foils her efforts at every turn.
When the plane lands, Lisa injures Jackson with a pen and makes a daring escape. She races home, outsmarts the hitman tailing her father, and ultimately thwarts the assassination attempt. In a tense final showdown at her house, Lisa manages to defeat Jackson with a shotgun just as the police arrive.
