In “The Happening,” a mysterious and deadly phenomenon begins to occur in the Northeastern United States, causing people to suddenly and inexplicably commit suicide. A science teacher named Elliot (Mark Wahlberg), his wife Alma (Zooey Deschanel), and their friend Julian (John Leguizamo) attempt to flee the affected areas and find safety, while also trying to uncover the cause of the strange and deadly occurrences.
